Hadith on the important of charity (sadaqah)
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
"Charity does not decrease wealth. No one forgives another except that Allah increases his honor, and no one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status."
Explanation:
This Hadith teaches us that giving charity (Sadaqah) is not a loss, but a source of blessing and increase in both this world and the Hereafter.
1. “Charity does not decrease wealth” –
At first, it may seem that when you give, your money becomes less. But the Prophet ﷺ assures us that Allah replaces and multiplies what you give in ways you cannot imagine — sometimes through new opportunities, protection from harm, or inner peace.
Example: When a person gives even a small amount sincerely, Allah might open a door for them — like unexpected income, success in business, or removal of difficulties.
2. “No one forgives another except that Allah increases his honor.” –
Just like Sadaqah, forgiving others is also an act of generosity. It does not lower your dignity; rather, Allah raises your respect and value among people and in His sight.
3. “No one humbles himself for the sake of Allah except that Allah raises his status.” –
Being humble, kind, and helpful — all parts of giving charity with good manners — make you great in the sight of Allah. Real greatness comes through humility, not pride.
Lessons we learn from this Hadith:
Sadaqah purifies the heart from greed.
Sadaqah brings barakah (blessing) to one’s wealth.
Sadaqah protects from calamities and misfortune.
Sadaqah earns immense rewards in the Hereafter.
Charity is not only giving money — a smile, kind word, or help can also be Sadaqah.
Allah also says:
> “The example of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is like a seed of grain that sprouts seven ears; in every ear are a hundred grains. And Allah multiplies for whom He wills.”
